Counselling Placements and Volunteer Counsellors
BCS welcomes applications from trainee counsellors looking for a placement or qualified counsellors keen to volunteer their time and skills. Please note that at present, we are only able to take on counsellors who have already accrued at least 50 client hours or those seeking a couples placement.
Attending weekly group supervision is a requirement when counselling clients at BCS. We currently have no space available until January 2026, at which point, there will be availability within the following groups: Mondays from 6.30pm to 8pm, Wednesdays from 12.45pm to 2.15pm and Thursdays from 10.30am to 12pm.
For further details on applying, please see the Application and Selection Guidelines for Applicants and External Assessment – Guidelines for Applicants.
Please also see the Counsellors’ Expectations of BCS and BCS Expectations of Counsellors document, which describes what BCS provides for counsellors who undertake counselling of BCS clients, and what BCS in turn expects of such counsellors.
Please note that we are unable to consider applications from counsellors in training unless trainees are able to start the placement within approximately two months. Applications made too far in advance mean that it is difficult for us to predict how trainees would develop over the intervening months and it is important for us to get as good an understanding as possible of where trainees are at the point at which they would begin seeing clients at BCS. We are also unable to predict what spaces we may have available in supervision groups too far in advance.
As the application form requires you to complete it in one go, in preparation for applying we recommend you read through our guidance form, which will help you gather the information required in advance of completing it. Once you are ready, if you wish to submit an application for consideration, please apply via our online Application Form.
Once you have submitted your application form, our Admin Team will receive an automatic notification that a new application form has been received. They will then be in touch regarding next steps.
If you have any queries or would like an informal chat prior to applying, please contact us on 01256 843125 or info@basingstokecounselling.org.uk
